Princess Alexandra-Nadejda Chary

Her Highness Princess Alexandra-Nadejda Chrobok von Koháry was born on September 14, 1970, in Toronto, Canada. She is the third child of Her Royal Highness Princess Maria Louisa of Bulgaria and the eldest child of Bronislaw Tomasz Andrzej Chrobok.
Princess Alexandra completed her primary education in the United States and pursued higher studies at Bishop’s University in Quebec, Canada, where she graduated with a degree in English Literature, with History and Political Science.
Following her academic pursuits, she moved to Paris and studied the French language at the Sorbonne University. Her lifelong passion for jewellery led her to intern in the Jewellery Department at Christie’s in Paris, after which she worked at Asprey in New York. To deepen her expertise, she completed courses at the Gemological Institute of America. Later, she returned to full-time studies at Pratt Institute in New York, where she earned a degree in Graphic Design.
On September 8, 2001, Alexandra married Jorge Champalimaud Raposo de
Magalhães. In celebration of their union, funds were raised for SOS Villages in Bulgaria, a charitable organization cherished by her mother, Princess Maria Louisa. After their marriage, she settled in Portugal, where she devoted herself to learning the language and continued her freelance design career. The couple welcomed their first child, Prince Luis, in 2003, followed by Princess Giovanna in 2006 and Princess Clémentine in 2010.
Alexandra developed a strong interest in the historical ties between Portugal and the Saxe-Coburg family, which reigned in Portugal from the 1830s until 1910. As part of this interest, she organized a cultural protocol between the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha Family Foundation and the Portuguese government through “Parques de Sintra” that manages the Castle of Pena, built by Tsar Ferdinand’s uncle, King Ferdinand II of Portugal.
She also contributed to the Slovak National Museum of St. Anton by donating a portrait of King Ferdinand of Portugal. It was officially given to the Slovakian Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon.
In 2017, she oversaw the Portuguese publication of His Majesty Tsar Simeon
II’s autobiography, which was hosted by the President of the Portuguese
Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Currently, Alexandra is assisting The Commission of Queen Maria Pia which is organizing the repatriation of HM Queen Maria Pia’s remains to Portugal.
